NRA Whittington Center, Raton, NM

As Jan said on Facebook, the N.R.A. is hardly our thing, but they have a lovely campground in Raton, NM, which is very close to the Colorado border. This center is the world's largest open air firing range, and the sound of "Pop Pop Pop" was in the air as we set up camp.

This is the view out of the right side of the trailer (the living room side). Those are firing ranges in the distance. They have separate ranges for pistols, shotguns, AUTOMATIC WEAPONS, and others. I guess if you have to have an automatic weapon, this is the place to be.

This is the view out of the left side of the trailer (the dining room side). All sites at this campground are full hookup, and it's only $25 a night. And when all the shooters go home, it is very quiet -- almost silent. We were one of four campers at this 46 site campground. There is another campground, also full hookup, with 72 sites just down the road.

I wanted to tell this little deer, "You may want to rethink where you are!" This picture was taken through the blinds in our dining room window, and this little guy was having a drink thanks to our water hookup which was leaking. We saw hundreds of deer here, but thankfully they are not allowed to be shot.

In addition to camping, they have a big area full of rental log cabins. This is one of the big ones with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, but they also have little teeny cabins that are just one room. Those rent for $54 a night. We know this because someone was renting one as we waited to check in. There are probably 30 some cabins in all for rent.
